Claremore’s Landon King
On the football field, in the weight room, and in the halls of Claremore High School, Landon King invests in success.
“Your work ethic in school shows how coachable and dependable you are,” the senior edge rusher said. “Stay disciplined, manage your time, and treat school like part of your training — because it is. If you take care of business in both areas, you’ll give yourself the best chance to succeed and get noticed.”
Now a senior with the prospect of playing at the next level, King is preparing himself and his teammates to make a deep playoff run.
“We’ve got talent, and if we stay locked in and play for each other, I truly believe we can do something special this year,” King said. “My mindset is to do whatever it takes to help the team win and leave a legacy for the younger guys to follow.”
King’s journey has been going on a decade. When he says he’s ready to do ‘whatever it takes,’ he isn’t bluffing.
“I fell in love with the game the first time I put on a helmet. At first, it was just about having fun and being part of a team, but as I got older, I realized how much I truly loved the grind — the practices, the film sessions, the weight room,” King said.
Along the way, he picked up secondary passions; Wrestling and throwing for the track team keep King’s body occupied 12 months out of the year.
“Each sport pushes me in different ways. Wrestling helps with toughness, footwork, and conditioning, while throwing builds my explosiveness and body control, which all transfer back to football,” King said. “There’s not much downtime, so I have to be smart with recovery, nutrition, and time management. But honestly, I feel like playing multiple sports gives me an edge. It keeps me competitive all year, helps me stay in shape, and teaches me how to adapt to different situations. It’s tough, but I love the grind.”
King has heard from several schools about wearing their uniform next year, including Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Pitt State and Northeastern State.
“I’m hoping to continue building those relationships and getting more eyes on my film this season,” King said. “When it comes to choosing a school, I’m looking for the right fit, somewhere that feels like home, where I can grow not just as a football player, but as a person. I want a coaching staff that believes in me, a program that values hard work and toughness, and a place where I can contribute and compete. Academics matter to me too, so I’m also looking for a school that can help me set up a strong future after football.”
