VYPE: How many years have you coached?

Randy Rutherford: I have been coaching about 20 years.

VYPE: How many years at Claremore?

RR:This is my first year.

VYPE: Do you teach? If so, what subject?

RR:No, I am the Dean of Students.

VYPE: As you approach opening night, how is your team shaping up?

RR:We are in the process of building a culture which will take care of the rest.

VYPE: What can we expect to see from the Claremore Zebras this season?

RR: We will play fast, hard and smart defense.

VYPE: What’s unique or special about the community of Claremore?

RR: They believe in the spirit of supporting these kids in all phases of their growth in athletics and outside of sports.

VYPE: What do you hope your student-athletes learn from you?

RR:The most important thing is that they become great human beings and be responsible and accountable for themselves.

VYPE: What is the greatest lesson your student-athletes have taught you?

RR: The wins come in their growth as humans.

VYPE: What components/values are necessary to a successful coaching staff?

RR: They must meet my standard in all phases of life.

VYPE: What advice would you give to a young coach?

RR: The game was here before. You can’t make it about you and understand, remember, it’s always about the kids.
