Marin Fink has become one of the standout athletes at Verdigris High School, where she plays midfielder for the school’s soccer team. The junior combines her love for the sport with a commitment to excellence both on and off the field, balancing athletics with academics and extracurricular activities.
Fink’s connection to her teammates runs deep. “One thing I really value and love about my team is the fact that we all grew up together,” she said. “Most of the girls on the team are players I played with when I was 5 years old.” This unique bond has created a cohesive unit that transcends typical high school sports dynamics.
Her improvement this season has been notable, particularly in specific areas of her game. “Two things I feel like I’ve really improved on coming into this season is my speed on the ball and my tactical abilities,” Fink said. Her commitment to development extends to her role on the field, where she shoulders considerable responsibility. “My main position is midfield, and the hardest part is definitely the running that comes with it,” she acknowledged.
The motivations behind Fink’s drive are multifaceted. “My parents truly inspire me, they are both very driven and my biggest supporters,” she said. This family influence has shaped her approach to athletics and academics alike. She maintains strong grades and serves as a member of the National Honor Society, demonstrating her dedication to scholarly pursuits alongside soccer.
Fink participates in additional activities beyond the soccer pitch. “I participate in both color guard and winter guard at Verdigris,” she noted. This involvement in the arts shows her diverse interests and time management abilities.
Off the field, Fink finds joy in simple pleasures. “I love spending my free days hanging out with my friends and going out. I really enjoy taking care of my animals and also art,” she said. When asked about academics, she displayed her lighter side: “My favorite subject in school is English. My favorite teacher is Mr. Clark, my math teacher from sophomore year.”
Fink’s perspective on team dynamics and personal growth reflects maturity beyond her years. “My most vocal teammate is probably Lexi, she’s always giggling, and it tends to be contagious,” she said with a smile, highlighting the camaraderie within the program.
When reflecting on what athletics has provided her, Fink pointed to intangible benefits. “Sports have taught me how to work with others, responsibility, and discipline,” she said.
Some of her most cherished memories come from team experiences. “Some of my favorite moments are from our tournament in Noble. I loved just getting to hang out and spend time with my teammates and coaches,” she said.
As Fink continues her high school career, her combination of athletic skill, academic achievement and genuine love for her teammates position her as a leader both on and off the field.
