SEQUOYAH CLAREMORE EAGLES
Coach: ROB GILBREATH
7-3
OFFENSE
Never afraid of hard work, the Eagles are poised for another solid season under the direction of coach Rob Gilbreath. “We have a good nucleus of starters returning from last year and expect to be a playoff contender,” said Gilbreath. Landon Gilbreath (6-1, 195, Sr.) rushed for 1,138 yards and threw for 1,382 yards with 20 touchdowns from his QB spot. Gilbreath is one of two 1,000-yard rushers the Eagles have on the roster. Dylan Burks (5-10, 180, Sr.) rushed for 1,007 yards and 13 touchdowns and will see time at wide receiver this season giving Gilbreath an excellent option in the run and pass game. Another RB creeping to the 1,000-yard mark is Tristian Gibson (6-4, 240, Sr.). Gibson amassed 977 yards on the ground and scored 13 TDs. One reason for the production in the run game is the scheme. The Eagles will run a spread wing, which coach Gilbreath admits it’s an offense teams don’t see every week. Caden Reavis (6-1, 200, Sr.) is a slot-back who rushed for 638 yads averaging 12 yards per carry with four TDs. Reavis rounds out a great RB group at Sequoyah. Mason Jones (6-0, 220, Sr.) gets the nod at center and Bryton Cagle (5-11, 250, Sr.) returns after suffering an injury last season. His return helps solidify the offensive line and the run game.
DEFENSE
Nine starters are back on the defensive side of the ball. Cagle will play on the defensive line with Ethan Germany (5-10, 230, Sr.) at defensive end. Germany had 52 tackles with seven sacks last season. The 3-4 scheme also features a pair of tough linebackers in Luke Rhine (6-0, 200, Jr.) and Andy Evans (5-9, 190, Sr.). Rhine made 74 tackles last season while Evans accounted for 59 tackles. Both guys fly to the football and can be used in situations to pressure QBs from all sorts of angles. The Eagles secondary features Gilbreath and Cade Ogden (6-1, 180, Sr.). Gilbreath made 52 tackles with three sacks and two INTs. Other players to watch include Wyatt Mullins (So.) who is an athlete and could see time at multiple positions and Briar Ashley who can play offensive or defensive line. Also look for Mason Jones and Jake Gilbreath to make contributions this season. The coaching staff consists of Scott Gatzemeyer, Bobby Cooper, Jesse Dorsch, Time Robinson, Mikuel Tyson, and Hunter Fick.
