Claremore Sequoyah’s Emerson Gilmore
There is no room for weakness when you are a football lineman. Emerson Gilmore plays on both the offensive and defensive line for Sequoyah High School in Claremore. One lesson he learned stands out above the rest. “To not be intimidated by people bigger than me,” he said.
The best feeling ever is when he can get the sack. Emerson is only a sophomore this year. He has many more years to look forward to getting sacks and being a powerhouse for his team.
Emerson is young but his impact on the season is expected to show on the field. Head football coach Rob Gilbreath looks to the future. He sees a lot of potential in many of the young players on his team. Emerson is no exception. He is a hard worker who Gilbreath anticipates will play a valuable role in the team’s chemistry this season.
With continued guidance and experience, great things can be expected from him this season and in the seasons to come. “Emerson has had a great off-season and possesses the size to be special even as a sophomore,” said Gilbreath.
Football is a team sport. Emerson enjoys the atmosphere of working together to achieve his team’s shared goal of winning state. He has a history of wins under his belt. His best memory as a freshman was winning all the junior varsity games. A teammate Emerson looked up to was Wrangler, who graduated last year. “He’s the type of lineman I want to be like.”
Representing SHS as a student-athlete is an opportunity to be a role model for the area youth. He sees how young kids look up to him as an athlete. Emerson strives to be someone these kids admire.
“Thank you to everyone in my family for giving me all their love and support. My mom and my dad both accepted me for who I am and have helped me all my life. I couldn’t thank them enough,” said Emerson.
“Don’t be afraid to be yourself and pay no mind to what others think,” is the best advice, according to Emerson.
The subject Emerson likes most is science and his favorite teacher is his science teacher Mrs. Kehler. “Science interests me the most, and I find it fun when we do projects.” His love of science is something he plans to pursue in the future. He loves listening to true crime stories and would like to combine this interest with his love of science to become a crime scene investigator.
