Claremore’s Bonnie Clarkson – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Orthopedics of Oklahoma

Claremore freshman Bonnie Clarkson is already making an impression as a varsity athlete, bringing energy, consistency and a team-first mindset to the court.

Clarkson, a ninth grader, credits much of her motivation to players she admires, especially Madison Godding. “She is such an energetic player and almost never lets a ball drop,” Clarkson said. That same relentless effort is something Clarkson is working to emulate as she develops her own game.

Off the court, Clarkson enjoys English class and names Ms. Fudge as her favorite teacher, highlighting the balance she maintains between academics and athletics.

On the court, Clarkson is quick to recognize the strengths of her teammates. She points to Maise Stagner-Speer as “a phenomenal setter,” while noting Emersyn Smith as the team’s most vocal presence. For team morale, Clarkson said Kenley Hayes “always keeps everyone laughing,” helping maintain a positive environment.

That chemistry is one of Clarkson’s favorite aspects of being part of the program. “What I enjoy most about being a part of the team is getting to play with some of my best friends,” she said. She also praised the team’s overall attitude, adding, “What I love most is how positive and energetic everyone is.”

Clarkson highlights Bailey Richerson as the teammate most willing to sacrifice her body for the team. “She’s always going to the floor for a dig,” Clarkson said.

As a developing player, Clarkson has identified consistency as a key strength. She prefers a standing serve over a jump serve, explaining, “Mine is more consistent than my jump serve.”

Outside of school and team activities, Clarkson spends her free time playing beach volleyball and hanging out with friends, further sharpening her skills while enjoying the sport she loves.

Athletics has already had a meaningful impact on Clarkson’s life. “It has taught me teamwork and how to keep working even when things get tough,” she said, lessons that extend beyond competition.
