In Northeast Oklahoma, the level of baseball being played is on the rise. One of the teams making some waves are the Claremore Zebras. Head coach Jonathan Gelnar said several players, including Marcos Sallee, are expected to have solid seasons.
“Junior Marcos Sallee has put in the work this offseason and continues to do so. Marcos is getting attention throughout the state and is ranked inside the top 20 (PBR) for his 2025 class. A great two-way player swinging a good bat and is one of our top arms on staff. Will play a big role on the mound for us this year,” said Sallee.
Sallee has played baseball for 12 years and will play shortstop, third base, and pitch for the Zebras when needed. The junior said he has some great teammates, and they are making some great memories together.
“Zach Hale and Brad Hoisington are two players to watch. They have been really big impacts on the team since moving here. My favorite moment is when we went to the hangout in Gulf Shores and our trip to Broken Bow,” said Sallee.
As a student-athlete, Sallee said the teachers and staff at Claremore support the athletes and the challenges that come with missing school. Sallee also plays basketball in the winter.
“What I enjoy the most is that the teachers are really helpful on days I have to miss for baseball,” said Sallee.
His future will likely include playing baseball at the next level. Something Sallee is pushing himself to accomplish. His support at home is a big reason why he feels the goal is a realistic one.
“My dad has been a huge influence in my life I strive to be like him every day,” said Sallee.
“What I enjoy doing is spending time with my friends and playing MLB The Show.”
