Inola’s Caden Thompson Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Keith Wagoner, Shelter Insurance

Caden Thompson is looking to stand out during his first high school golf season. Caden is a freshman at Inola High School and he has been playing golf for eight years.

Caden has been surrounded by golf his whole life, which is what ultimately influenced him to begin playing.

“My dad is the golf coach at Inola so I’ve been around it my whole life. He put a golf club in my hand at a very early age. I really enjoyed going with him to tournaments as an elementary kid. His players always treated me like part of the team. I always looked up to those guys. I picked it up pretty good and loved every minute of it.”

Many years in golf have allowed Caden to grow to love it.

“I enjoy the challenge of golf, even if it’s hard it can always get better. Every day is a different day that brings different challenges.”

The biggest lesson that Caden has learned in golf is the importance of having passion and perseverance.

“I have learned to have grit and to not give up; you can’t do anything about the last shot. The most important shot is the next shot.”

Caden credits much of his motivation to his golf community.

“My teammates mean the world to me. They are not only my teammates, they are also my great friends. I know they got my back and I also have theirs. We love to keep it competitive in practice and push each other to get better. I try to keep them positive, and hype them up.”

Caden urges anyone who is considering golf to commit to it. He says that golf has impacted his life in so many ways, and encourages others to participate also, “because it teaches you a lot of life lessons and you can play this game your entire life.”
