McKenna Yancey can appreciate that to move forward in life, one must make sacrifices to be able to put in the work required to reach their goals. This softball player for Pryor High School is in the 9th grade and has a hopeful future ahead of her. McKenna’s favorite spot to be is shortstop because she feels most at home there. “I’ve always played there and it’s just a perfect spot for me. I think it fits me well, plus I play best when in that spot,” she remarked. Her proudest memory is making varsity as a freshman and all her greatest plays would have to be her favorite memories. She thanks softball for teaching her “…how to grow as a person and teammate – how to laugh, make memories, and pick one another up.”
These skills have served McKenna well in her education as well, she excels academically because she knows the importance of putting in hard work. McKenna says she has the educators in her life to thank for this and being a positive influence in her life, naming Coach Cowan as her favorite teacher. “He is funny and understands when you struggle in some spots,” offering additional support whenever necessary.
When it comes to her work ethic, she stated her dad is the biggest inspiration towards that end and does everything within his power to help her achieve her goals. Arystan, her ‘big sister’ on the team, is also an inspiration because of her sense of humor and equally impressive work ethic. “She pushes me to do better and picks me up after an error which helps a lot.” Being able to embody good sportsmanship and generosity while representing Pryor High School is of the utmost importance to her and it shows.
McKenna is also involved with travel ball. She would like to thank her family, specifically her oldest brother Jake and her mom and dad for all they do, “I love my parents and my family so much, they play such a big part of my life,” she remarked before thanking her softball coaches.
