Grace Baughman
Claremore High School
VYPE: Grace, when did you start playing volleyball and when did you know this was the sport for you?
Grace Baughman: I started playing volleyball in 7th grade and realized it was my sport almost immediately when I went to volleyball camps before season started.
VYPE: What are some positives you see from the team?
GB: We are really good in transition and can place the ball, our serves are consistent and aggressive. We also are very close and were a very young team, so we still have a lot of growth that’s still going to happen.
VYPE: What other activities are you involved in?
GB: I run track, and I’m a sprinter.
VYPE: Where does your strong work ethic come from?
GB: I’ve always been a coach’s kid, so I know that I have to meet a high standard and I need to earn my spot, it’s not just given to me. I stay after practice to work on things that I need to work on, and come early when I can, that honestly helps so much, especially if I don’t have as much confidence as I need to be a successful setter to make my hitters look good.
VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
GB: I love being able to have these amazing girls in school with me because we all have bonds, and these girls are the sweetest most precious friends I could ever get. We’re all sisters here and I’ve made some lifelong best friends in volleyball.
VYPE: Do you have a dream scenario for this season?
GB: We get to be state finalists, the goal we all push for is to bring that 5A State Champs banner home with that trophy and that we all fight for it together. We will aways cherish every moment more because we all worked together for it and make fun memories we’ll never forget.
VYPE: How do you like to spend your downtime?
GB: When I have some downtime, I like to make sure I’m caught up with schoolwork, and either hangout with friends, or rest to give my body a mental and physical break.
VYPE: Who has made a big impact in your life?
GB: My coaches, Coach Baughman and Coach Jackson have made such a big impact on my life. They have helped me become who I am on and off the court. I’m forever grateful for how hard they are on me because they see potential and hold me to a high standard.
VYPE: What are your plans for life after high school?
GB: After high school I want to go to college and play volleyball. I want to get a degree in the medical field, preferably sports medicine and just go with the flow of life and just live it as best I can.
