Q&A with Claremore’s Leslie Piedra – Presented by Advanced Orthopedics of Oklahoma

VYPE: What goals do you have for this year?
Leslie: My goals will always be improving myself in every category of cheer, as well as being a team leader, and always doing my part for myself and for my team.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Leslie: Cheer has taught me you’re not going to get where you want to be unless you put time and effort into it, and have confidence in yourself that you can do it.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?
Leslie: My 10th grade English teacher, Mrs. Lahr. She taught with passion and you could tell she loved teaching. She taught life lessons within assignments and books we read in class.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
Leslie: My mom inspires me. She has always been supportive in everything I do. She has taught me to be strong, and to live my dreams. My dad also inspires me, because he has helped me through hard times in cheer and always encourages me to do my best.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Leslie: Reagan left an impact on me, not only in cheer but in my daily life. I saw myself in her and strive to be even a fraction of an amazing person and cheerleader she was.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?
Leslie: Being on a team you’re never alone. If something is going wrong in a stunt, you can always ask a teammate for help. If you’re going through something in cheer, there is most likely a teammate that has been through the same situation and can help you out.

VYPE: Who in your family is the best athlete? Explain.
Leslie: Either my mom or my little brother. Growing up my mom did volleyball and track and she’s always loved sports. My little brother loves playing baseball, basketball, and soon wants to play football.

VYPE: What’s one sport you wish you could play that you don’t already play?
Leslie: Probably softball or volleyball. Both are the same season as cheer, and as much as I would love to play and experience these sports, I love cheer too much!

VYPE: What profession would you like to work in?
Leslie: I would like to be a real estate agent in the future!
