Sequoyah Claremore’s Faith Dorsey – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Red Crown Credit Union

Sequoyah Claremore sophomore Faith Dorsey has already made a name for herself on the varsity soccer field, anchoring the Lady Eagles’ back line with the same poise and toughness she shows behind the plate in softball. A multi-sport athlete, she splits seasons between catcher in the spring and sweeper in the fall, embracing a new role for the soccer program this year.

“I am a member of the Lady Eagles softball and soccer teams,” Dorsey said. “I play catcher for softball and sweeper for soccer. Sweeper is a new position for me this year and I’m excited to take on the challenge.”

That competitive mindset helped Dorsey earn All-District honorable mention in soccer as a freshman on varsity, an early milestone that still drives her. “It was a big accomplishment for me and motivated me to keep pushing myself,” she said.

Her journey has not been easy. A serious hip injury carried over from softball and forced her to the sideline while teammates continued to train. Through that stretch, she leaned on Sequoyah Claremore soccer coach May, whom she calls her biggest inspiration. “Because he went through something similar, he understood what I was going through and knew how to push me to be my best once I got back even on the hard days,” Dorsey said.

Dorsey points to lessons that extend far beyond a final score. “Playing softball and soccer has taught me responsibility, leadership, and how important it is to support my teammates, even in tough situations,” she said. “Being a part of both teams has definitely helped shape me into a better person and taught me things I’ll take with me beyond the sport.”

Influences come from all corners of her life, from former senior pitcher Reagan Hanson, who modeled the bond between upperclassmen and freshmen, to eighth-grade science teacher Mrs. Woods, who “always made everyone feel like they belonged.” Dorsey also studies Oklahoma star Kenzie Hansen, saying, “Watching how she handles pressure and leads her teammates has always inspired me to work harder no matter what sport I’m playing.”

Her motivation always comes back to community. “My favorite part about representing my school is knowing when I step on the field, I am playing for something bigger than just myself,” Dorsey said.
