Mason Jones

Every coach wishes they had 22 Mason Joneses.
“He does everything that is asked,” Sequoyah–Claremore head coach Rob Gilbreath said. “He works extremely hard and is a great leader-by-actions type of guy.”
Jones has experienced his share of triumphs and tribulations.
“It’s been a journey,” the SHS Eagles center and middle linebacker said. “I would say my greatest accomplishment would be balancing football, my personal life and school maintaining a 3.4 GPA. Some challenges I faced were a ruptured PCL my sophomore year as well as a tear in my quad this last offseason.”
Jones refused to let either injury keep him down, at least not mentally.
“I stayed focused on letting myself recover and continued to work hard so I could be 100 percent when I needed to be,” Jones said.
Jones’ football journey began in the third grade. He has played several positions, including defensive line, in that time. He also participates in trap & skeet and is a dedicated member of Sequoyah’s FFA program. Off the field, Jones is “pretty laid back.” But he’s not the type of kid to take an opportunity for granted.
“It [football] means a lot to me,” Jones said. “I put my heart into every play and leave it all out on the field. . . It has taught me that, in order to achieve what you want, you have to put in the work.”
That’s exactly the advice Jones would give to his third-grade self if he could go back in time: “To stay in the moment and to stay disciplined and keep working.” One of his goals is to improve every day. Sequoyah Eagles supporters should expect their team to reflect Jones’ values this year.
“I believe we will take care of business and take state this year,” Jones said.
After high school, Jones intends to play football at the collegiate level.
