Bryan Wesson

Verdigris High School

Twelve years ago, Bryan Wesson joined the staff at Verdigris High School, marking the beginning of a successful and fruitful tenure at VHS. The former graduate of Oklahoma Union High School and Bacone College had a few stops on his way to Verdigris.

“I’m a graduate of Bacone College with a Bachelors in Education. I started coaching at Bacone College as a men’s Head Assistant, then Catoosa High School as a girls Head Coach, before coming to Verdigris High School as a girl’s assistantcoach,” said Wesson.

Assisting the girls volleyball and basketball teams is something coach Wesson truly enjoys.

“I love the chance to come out every day and make an impact on the sport that I love! Love being able to teach the basics and coach with coach Buntin. I love seeing growth in young ladies on and off the court,” said Wesson.

Wesson said former college coaches and the excellent teachers he had in high school influenced his decision to go into education and coaching. Wesson is the current Alternative Education Director at Verdigris High School.

“In the field of Alt Ed, I absolutely love that I am able to help kids out that do not function very well in a typical classroom setting. Helping students graduate and continue on in the outside world is something that I really enjoy,” said Wesson.

Being a mentor and helping students find their path is something coach Wesson recognizes as part of the job. He offers this advice to any student considering a career in coaching.

“Learn the game and be a sponge around anyone that has had success. Go out to games everywhere and see what other teams/coaches/programs are doing. Learn, learn, learn,” said Wesson.

Away from school you can find coach Wesson spending time with his wife and two kids while working on their ranch at his parents’ house.
