Verdigris’ Coy Lemons Athlete Spotlight Presented by Red Crown Credit Union

When Coy Lemons steps onto the basketball court for Verdigris High School, the 6-foot-5 small forward will be one of the players coach Chris Houk will lean on this season for quality minutes. Lemons can and will play multiple positions for the Cardinals this season. Lemons said the team is coming together and they are excited to get back on the court. 

“We have better chemistry this year and more depth,” said Lemons. “Good group of guys, good teammates, and fun to be around.” 

Student-athletes at Verdigris High School are proud to represent their school and Lemons is no different. 

“What I love most about being a student-athlete is VHS is a small and quiet school with great teachers,” said Lemons. 

In the classroom the sophomore said he has a favorite subject and teacher, but it was tough to narrow it down. 

“My favorite class is Biology, and my favorite teacher is coach Hiett,” said Lemons. 

While basketball keeps Lemons busy, he does find time for activities outside of school. 

“I’m not in clubs at school but I am very involved with the church, youth discipleship and the youth group at Destiny Life Church in Claremore,” said Lemons. 

The future class of 2026 graduate said he is focused on playing basketball at the next level once his playing days in high school come to an end. Away from school, Lemons said he enjoys being around family. 

“I like to spend time with my family and play basketball in my free time,” said Lemons. 

As for the upcoming season, Lemons said the goal is to make it to the Big House. 

“Our goal is to make the state tournament,” said Lemons. “Some players to watch for Verdigris this season are Dax Hamilton (So.), Cooper Coons (Fr.), Tyler Willis (Sr.), Ian Meador (Sr.), Gunner Kapuchuck (So.), Bryce Warren (Jr.), Maddox Mason (Jr.), Cole Finch (Sr.), and Austin Boren (So.).
