Abbigail Rairdon thrives on exhilaration. Whether she is competing on the soccer field or jumping off a 25-foot cliff into The Blue Hole in Jamaica, Rairdon is up for the challenge.
“That was the most exhilarating, breathtaking and exciting thing I’ve ever done! I would do that a million times over!” she exclaims.
Rairdon is equally excited about soccer. She is a sophomore and an underclassman to watch at Verdigris High School.
“I’m a very competitive person so when someone beats me, I get angry and I go out and work harder,” she said.
Rairdon is competitive but also humble. She often hears from other coaches how much they like seeing her play with humility and grace. This level of sportsmanship makes her a positive role model.
“Sometimes you go out with way too much pride, and someone puts you in your place. The best way to show your skill is to work hard and to be as humble as you can be,” said Rairdon. “I’m passionate about my sport because I hate letting people down. I will always try my hardest for my coaches. I may not always be the best player, but I will definitely work my tail off for my coaches and teammates.”
Her older cousin, Tyler, played soccer. Watching him made Rairdon love it and gave them something to always have in common. Her closest friendships have also revolved around soccer. Averie Deegan is a teammate she has played with since childhood.
“Averie shows me how to play with grace and no matter how bad of a game I’m having, she’s always there with a smile on her face to cheer me up,” Rairdon said.
Rairdon thanks her first soccer coach, Richard Fink, for placing his faith in her and teaching her the game. She thanks Coach Risenhoover, who plays a huge part in her life and she also thanks her parents.
“They’re always there for me, no matter what! It could be raining, snowing, me being injured or a game that’s three hours away, they will still be there to support me!” she exclaims.
Rairdon is devoted to her faith. Her favorite place to be is at church with friends. She looks forward to having a husband of faith and raising children who love God.
Rairdon is an entrepreneur running a small, home bakery called AbbiCakes. Her career goal is to become a physician’s assistant.
