Sequoyah High School’s Emmyn Gibson brings a tireless, multi-sport mindset to the volleyball court, where she plays outside hitter for the Lady Eagles.
Gibson, a junior, has built her athletic identity around effort, discipline and an eagerness to improve. Her commitment is evident beyond volleyball, as she also plays shooting guard in basketball, midfielder in soccer, and competes in cross country and track.
“I play outside hitter in volleyball, shooting guard in basketball, a midfielder in soccer and I run cross country and track,” Gibson said.
Her work ethic has already earned recognition. Gibson was named All-County MVP during her sophomore year, an honor that reflects the consistent work she puts into developing her game and helping her teams compete.
“I was honored with All-County MVP my sophomore year,” Gibson said.
While balancing a demanding schedule of sports, Gibson has learned that personal growth starts with accountability. She credits athletics with teaching her that success does not happen without an individual commitment to preparation.
“Sports has taught me that I have to put in my own work to accomplish the things I want to be good at,” Gibson said.
Gibson also draws motivation from those around her. Her parents’ example has shaped her approach, while teammate Alice Micheals made an impression through her consistent effort and determination.
“My parents inspire me because of their hard work, dedication, and support,” Gibson said.[1]
“Alice Micheals is a teammate who left an impression on me because she always gives her hardest efforts,” Gibson said.
In the classroom, Gibson appreciates the encouragement of Mrs. Kehler, a teacher who has challenged her to keep growing. She carries a simple piece of advice into every sport and stage of life: remain present.
“The best advice I’ve been given is to be present and not focus too much on the past or too far ahead in the future,” Gibson said.
