Verdigris’ Brielle Martin-Athlete Spotlight-Presented by Forever Young Med Spa

For Verdigris High School junior Brielle Martin, cheerleading is about more than performing on the sideline. It is a chance to contribute to a connected group, challenge herself and bring energy to the crowd as a member of the Lady Cardinals varsity squad.

Martin serves as a base for Verdigris, a role that requires strength, trust and attention to detail during stunts. While she appreciates the athletic side of cheer, the atmosphere surrounding the program is what makes the experience meaningful to her.

“I love how my teammates use all their different strengths to work together to be the best we can be,” Martin said.

That shared commitment is something Martin looks forward to carrying into the season. She is eager to see the results of the work the squad puts in each day, especially when competition time arrives.

“I am most excited to see how my teams hard work will pay off later in the season and in competition,” Martin said.

As a base, Martin enjoys the opportunities cheerleading provides to connect with others, whether she is helping lead support for the Cardinals or competing alongside her teammates.

“I am a base, and I enjoy crowd engagement and competitions most!” Martin said.

Martin said her parents have been a major source of motivation in her life. Their encouragement has helped her maintain a positive approach while working toward both personal and athletic goals.

“My parents inspire me, they both make me feel so encouraged to put my best effort forward in everything I do and support me to help reach my goals,” Martin said.

She also draws inspiration from within the squad. Martin said teammate Olivia has made a lasting impact by encouraging her to keep improving while remembering to enjoy the sport.

“My current teammate Olivia inspires me to push myself and have fun in my sport,” Martin said.

Away from cheer, Martin is a member of the National Honor Society and is preparing for a future beyond high school. She hopes to pursue a career in the medical field after graduation.

As she continues developing as a cheerleader, Martin is focused on advancing her tumbling skills. She also carries forward a lesson learned last season: “Procrastination and putting things off are your biggest roadblocks and weaknesses.”
