As a freshman outside hitter for Claremore High School’s varsity volleyball team, Megan Mosley is embracing the responsibility that comes with being one of the team’s offensive weapons while continuing to develop her all-around game.
Mosley values the close bond shared by the Lady Zebras, describing a culture built on effort, encouragement and accountability.
“What I love most about my team and teammates at Claremore is that we truly feel like a family, we support each other, have each other’s backs, and always willing to step in and help when needed. Everyone works incredibly hard towards their goals, and that its teamwork support and commitment to one another that makes this team so special.”
On the court, Mosley plays outside hitter, a position that demands both aggressive attacking and consistent passing. She enjoys the opportunity to lead and deliver in important moments for her teammates.
“I play outside hitter. I love being a leader on the court and being one of our offenses primary weapons. I enjoy the challenge of being someone my team can count on to make big plays and help us succeed.”
Mosley said senior Ava Tanner has been an important example for her, both as an athlete and as a person. She appreciates Tanner’s work ethic and positive presence around the program.
“Someone who inspires me is Senior, Ava Tanner. I look up to her as a player and a person in many ways. As an outside hitter, she works hard and gives it her all. She always has a smile on her face and always being positive attitude wherever she goes.”
She also has been impressed by teammate Jackie Hinojosa’s energy and resilience; qualities Mosley believes help set the tone for the team.
“A teammate that had stood out so far to me and why is Jackie Hinojosa. She stood out because her energy positivity and aggressive play. She doesn’t let mistakes get to her. And always finds a way to bounce back and keep pushing forward.”
Mosley is working to become a more complete player. She said her ability to use smart shot selection, rather than simply relying on power, helps keep opposing defenses off balance. At the same time, she is focused on improving the timing of her approach and becoming a stronger passer. Her approach to improvement extends beyond scheduled practices and matches. Mosley learned the importance of mastering fundamentals and putting in extra work, habits she plans to carry throughout the season.
