Sequoyah Claremore Eagles 2023 Football Team Preview – Presented by Red Crown Credit Union

SEQUOYAH CLAREMORE EAGLES

Coach: ROB GILBREATH

11-2

OFFENSE

Last season saw the Eagles earn a berth into the Class 2A playoffs. After winning their first two playoff games, they lost their third round game to Millwood. This year the team and their head coach, Rob Gilbreath, are looking for continued improvement and at least one playoff game in front of their home fans. “We have some good returning starters which should make for an exciting season,” he said. “We are going to strive to get a home playoff game.” Landon Gilbreath (6-1, 185, Jr.) is returning at quarterback after a solid season a year ago. He passed for 1,855 yards and twenty-five touchdowns and he rushed for 700 yards. Joining him in the backfield will be running back Dylan Burks (5-11, 175, Jr.). He carried the ball 27 times for 443 yards and six touchdowns last season. He also had 22 receptions for 252 yards and four touchdowns. Cade Ogden (6-1, 175, Jr.) will be another target for the quarterback. Tucker Long (6-1, 250, Sr.), Mason Jones (6-0, 230, Jr.), and Carson Armstrong (6-0, 210, Jr.) will be key players for the Eagles on the offensive line.

DEFENSE

The Eagles’ defense will work hard to stop the run and create turnovers. Leading the charge on that will be three of their defensive linemen, Levi Gastelum (6-4, 230, Jr.), Ethan Germany (5-10, 220, Jr.), and Bryton Cagle (6-0, 240, Jr.). Taking care of things at the linebacker position will be Sonny Proctor (6-3, 200, Sr.) and Gilbreath. Both have worked hard in the offseason and are ready to make an impact on the defense. Patrolling the secondary and working to keep the opposing receivers at bay will be Burks at defensive back. Assistant coaches for the Eagles this season are Brannon Feese, Scott Gatzemeyer, Bobby Cooper, Jesse Dorsch, and Mike McClure.
